Well, my bike was finally broken in and i passed my license test so it was time to mod it! I bought another carb from a fellow thumpertalk member so that i could keep the stock one in case the smog nazis in CA decide to start checking bikes! The carb came setup with a 55/175 jet setup and a .056 needle shim. Since i was keeping my bike fairly stock and retaining the stock pipe, I changed the jets to a 55/160 setup and reduced the needle shim to .020! Anyway, as i am installing the IMS smog block off plates, i notice that the carb i bought from TREADMARKS is a NON CA carb and doesnt have ANY of the smog nonsense that needs to be blocked off! WOOHOO I proceed with the install of the new modified carb and cleaned off all of the smog nonsense, then installed my 4.7G Clarke tank! I fired it right up and let it idle, once it warmed up, it wouldnt hold an idle. I quickly checked the idle speed screw, kicked it up a notch and all was good! Once i let the bike warm up and run check for leaks, i took it for a ride! All i can say is WOW, what a difference! I read all of the info about how these mods liven it up, but i am still most impressed with the results! MUCH quicker throttle response and the front end flys into the air with a blip of the throttle in 2nd gear! Anyway, i am sure this has been mentioned a 100 times, but i am most stoked with these mods! Current setup = 55/160 jets, desmogged, desnorkeled, UNI air filter, stock pipe! Loving it!
