If for commenting that to my mind it looks terrible I am to be flamed, so be it.

I see little point in buying an unfaired bike and then sticking something on it that looks like a dogs hind leg.

If you want a faired , or half faired bike, there are plenty of great ones on the market designed to be that way.

but my ducati 999 sucks in the trails. and so does my goldwing for that matter.

Some one flamed you?

Sorry, but that`s as ugly as sin.
If you get blown about, ride a faired bike, but after riding an unfaired Kawasaki for years at 3 figure speeds, I suspect all you need to do is strengthen your neck muscles, not bugger the styling of your bike.
Fitting an ugly bit of perspex to the front of a DRZ or any supermoto or enduro bike? - eeeeuch.

For crying out loud, you much be a right bunch of poor sensitive souls in this forum.

If you want to stick christmas tree lights on your bike and ride in flourescent green spandex pants, fine , be my guest.

I`ll just be happy that more bikes are on the road, but, I see a lot of tasteless bling on bikes on both sides of the pond.....and quite a lot in this forum.

If for commenting that to my mind it looks terrible I am to be flamed, so be it.

How rude! ?

Just expressing an opinion on the aesthetics of add on windshields....

I seem to have touched somewhat of a raw nerve here and had no idea the notion of an opinion on the looks of add on screens was so controversial.

That`s a few to be getting on with.

Post some pics of DRZ`s with add on screens and let us judge for ourselves if they are tasteless tat, or usefull options.

If it helps you use you bike, go ahead.

The only nerve you touched was your own. I just put the low KLR screen on mine and it looks badass but I think I want it a little taller. I put 150 miles on my bike yesterday which included about 8 to 10 water crossing, miles of gravel road and a whole lot of twisties. Some pictures on page 2. Was a GREAT day.

The wind was a blowing hard on the roads though. The DRZ is an awesome tool....Swiss Army knife right....well that windshield gives it one more blade...right on. ?

Since you are all about "Looks", why did you post links to some of the ugliest bikes I have ever seen as options?

Make your own minds up on the looks....

PS , if you think I`m a shallow, image conscious fashion victim, my other bike currently is a Suzuki GSX750F "teapot" , known as the Katana in the states.

It carries the not insignificant title in these parts as the ugliest motorcycle ever...

Personally, I think the Ducati multistrada looks worse, but thats only me.

I still think those screens are as ugly as sin and make what is a sexy looking wee bike [the DRZ] look like something designed by 3 men who never met eachother, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I`m hardly in a position to be a taste policeman.

I think most of them are ugly too. But I have to admit that on occasion I have wished I had one. Nothing like a small windshield to hide behind during a rainstorm.

I'm more into function than looks (and I ain't just talking about bikes) so I like them. Just haven't mounted one yet cause I use my PC800 for longer rode rides now and save the DRZ for fun days.

And I too have used a milk crate once or twice. Very nice for carying tools while cutting trails.

Set em up how you like em, and ride. Don't worry about what others think.

I've read through the entire thread on this one and I'm sitting here with a huge grin. Did I miss something or did you NOT ask anyone's opinion on how it looks? It's like the thread I read on some dude wanting to know the best way to polish the swing arm on his DRZ-400s. Lot's of opinions on whether or not to do it. That's not the point. The guy just wanted to know the best way HOW to do it. I do stuff to both my bikes that people say they would not do. All I ask is, "Who's ride is this? It's mine." "Who paid for it? I did." Who's money am I spending to do this? Mine." It's MY ride. Once I make up my mind I'm going to do something to my bike, I just do it. I don't give a crap what anyone thinks, and if I do, I'll ask. On the other hand...there's nothing quite like freedom of speech without fear of getting executed for what you say. However, I do prefer that people keep their opinions to themselves unless asked. It helps a lot when you're searching for information in forums.

Perhaps its a cultural thing in that people from over the pond dont enjoy a bit of banter , and take offence more easily than those in the UK.

If you dont want anyone to express an opinion on what you do, both aesthetically and practically, there seems little point in posting.

Having said that, if you compare the original pics to those aftermarket screens I posted, that of the original poster is the best [of a bad bunch]

I dont see how it should be difficult for an aftermarket company to produce a new Dakar style mini-fairing and screen to replace the original.

Something akin to that on the KTM 950 enduro bikes.

It just seems lazy to me to make a bit of plastic with no thought to how it actually looks on the bike.

The practicalities of a fairing for long distance riding I understand, just that what is currently on offer could look much better.

I will crawl back into my hole and express no more opinions on the matter.

I find ugly as sin attractive. Why do you think I still bought my DRZ after looking at it. A very small reason though; the others fell under passion and practicality. Which is why I will either be keeping my DR-Z and adding a windscreen or trading for something that isn't so much work to hold onto when it's windy...especially on interstate. I appreciate everyone's opinions...they helped me in choosing the Cee Bailey shield. Thank ya.
