A few ttr125 yz rear conversion updates

So far I have all the parts needed (I think lol), and have been putting it all together. The yz85 swingarm fits right up with 1 or 2 washers between it and the frame on both sides. Look on the right side and you can see the silver washers.

The wheel fits right on with the spacers, and sliders, and brakes. Keep in mind you will need to get a 428 conversion sprocket for your wheel, due to the fact that the ttr125 takes a 428, and the 85 uses a 420. I went with a renthal 50t. Here are some pics.

The yz linkage fits up, but your link that comes from the frame needs to be welded solid. (still to come) Straight up, and so it wont pivot.

And just so everyone understands, this is the piece that needs to be welded solid to the frame.

The shock needs to be mounted in a new place on the top of the frame, and needs to have a slot ground off for the reservor of the shock. The hole also needs to fit the yz shock, not the ttr!!! Keep that in mind. You need to put 2 washers on the inside of where you mount the yz shock to keep things snug. Dont forget that.

The oil reservor on the rear disk brakes needs to be mounted on the frame. Easy!!! Get a bracket at a hardware store, and bolt her on. Look.

Now you need to mount the rear brake master cylinder on the frame. This will include welding a bracket on the frame so it can bolt on. I used a little piece of strap metal and welded a piece of sheet metal to it. (at a 90 degree angle) Next I welded that piece to the frame. Here are some pics:

Oh, and you can chop the brake hoses down if they are too long.

I also made a new mount on the ttr brake pedal to go on the bottom of the master cylinder. And, NO, the yz one wont work!!!?

One thing you might also have to do is grind a little on the frame so the yz shock spring wont rub. You expecially need to do this if you add a heivier spring. Here is a pic:

Maybe??? But you have a bike that has much better power and will run for ever vs. a yz80-85. The are much more fun for a larger person to ride.

im not putting down yer ttr it looks cool......i thought about doing the conversion to. but for the work involved the benifits dont seem worth it.and the suspension geometry is off from the way it was dessigned to work for either bike

Thanks, and I found my lost pics, so I have twice as much as I have posted. As soon as Im finished, I will post everything, and give a detailed write up. I did this conversion cuz I just love working on stuff, and really needed to upgrade the suspention on the little ttr. When the bikes done, I will have no problem keeping up with the 85's at out track. I wont be racing against them though, cuz they won't let me in the class cuz Im too old lol. But still, Im only 15.

Looks like your project is coming along well. I did this mod for my son a few years ago. We ride woods and hare scrambles and its been a great bike for that. The rear shock has been a work in progress as it didn't have enough rebound dampening. here are some pics.

hey rippin450 what did you do to bolt up the rearend to the ttr besides the mount for the rear brake reservoir? As far as the swingarm, shock and fitment, how did it all come together? Is your rearend and frontend from the same bike or different years?

Cobra, the forks are from an 04 Kawasaki KX-85 ( shortened 3 inches). The shock is from a 86 YZ 80 and the swingarm is from a 95 YZ 80. The years aren't important its just what I found resonably priced. I had to make a master cyclinder brackect and various shims and bushings. I'm working on putting a shock on it from a early model XR 200. Its a KYB shock which has compression/rebound dampening and a remote res. I prefer the remote res. because of the fittment issues of the new style shocks with the res on the shock body. Its not a hard job but one that requires a lot of time and tinkering abilities.

thats prety bad ass but if you're going to put that much time and money into that you may as well just put a ttr engine in a yz frame i know it doesnt require as much fabricating and i do like fab work but you would already have the suspension geometry would all be correct for sure i'm not saying it a wast of time though its prety sweet:thumbsup:

Thanks allot guys. Im glad I can get some support. And ya, I could have just put it in a yz85 chassis, but I didn't get all the money at once, and $50 here and $40 there worked better for me. So I just started getting the parts. All I really have left is the welding parts, and I will also need a new shock. I will probably get a stiffer spring, and maybe maybe a revalve later on, but Im outa cash and just wan2 be able to ride!!!

Ya, a little. I took metals one last year, but I will probably leave this to my uncle who is a profesional welder (when ever he gets a chance).
