Recommended Posts

Would you please provide us with all the Senators and or Legislators that helped in defeating SB 5544 and who spoke with us at the Rally?... Was not always easy to hear who was speaking and what was being said. ( Especially those of us who were in the back. ) I think everyone one of us would appreciate that and would be more than happy to send them an email THANKING THEM for their efforts and for attending our Rally.:applause::eek::lol:  :naughty::worthy::lol:

Me too! I have already done so for the ones I know Including Kline

I just got a phone call from Chris Manthos. Chris is the president of the American Watercraft Association and is very disturbed by SB5544 and senator Kline's comments. The AWA is going to lend a hand to the fight against SB5544 by using their dealership contacts in Washington state. Anyone with a couple of brain cells can see that Kline has his sights on all motorized sports. Nice to get some support from the watercraft folks!

Joe, all who run off road motorsports need to band together. The Klines out there will go after one segment. Its much easier to take out a small group each time. But if we are all on the same page, ie dirt bikes, quads, personal water craft, snomobilers, jeep guys, rock crawlers, then we are a force to be reckoned with. You can bet, if the bill passed, the PWC and snomobilers would be next. We need to rally behind those guys also if they get in a jamb. Imagine how weak the NRA would be if the muzzleloaders, shotgunners, pistol, rifle guys were all divided?

The following was posted on the WOHVA web page, how arrogant............

CLOUT Legislative Alert: SB 5544 Senator Kline's Response why he would co-sponsor SB 5544

Friday, March 02, 2007

----- Original Message -----

From: Kline, Sen. Adam

Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2007 3:49 PM

Subject: RE: Possible NC: SB 5544

Dear Mr. Helgeson,

I signed on because I have been annoyed, endangered, and angered one too

many times by people riding motorized dirt-bikes and other off-road vehicles

that have no damn business anywhere. To me, this bill is narrow--it doesn't

include those "personal watercraft," seemingly jet-powered little missiles

whose only apparent purpose is to risk death and dismemberment for boaters

and swimmers, for the amusement of spoiled drunk teenagers.

Yes, I am sure there is the occasional responsible person who rides one of

these machines on land or water. And yes, like every human being I have

been pleasantly surprized to find my stereotypes broken. But why, why, why,

do folks insist on motorized "sports"? Those two words are an oxymoron.

There is nothing sporting--athletic, physically demanding--about riding any

machine anywhere. And it's a damned annoyance to folks who see the outdoors

as a place to go for quiet and solitude and self-exploration. I would be

happy to ban the use of the internal combustion engine off-road, by anyone

without a handicapped sticker, subject to a stiff fine. Maybe we could call

this an anti-obesity measure.

Please circulate this to all motorized sports enthusiasts, so they can

remember never to vote for me.

Adam Kline

Subject: Possible NC: SB 5544

SENATE INTERNET E-MAIL DELIVERY SERVICE

TO: Senator Adam Kline

FROM: Dave Helgeson (Possible Non-Constituent)

SUBJECT: SB 5544

MESSAGE:

Senator Kline,

I am curious to know why you would co-sponsor the most discriminatory,

anti-OHV Bill ever proposed?

SB 5544changes would creating maximum sound levels for riding

near any residence, regardless of where that residence is located or how it

is zoned. It would become illegal for my Family to ride our motorcylces and

quads

where they are "plainly audible" from in or adjacent to any residence. This

would even include residences that are on farm land, forest land or in an

industrial area.

One of the few riding area riding areas where it is still legal to ride in

Western Washington is Captial State Forest near Olympia. There are a few

parcels of private property located within the forest. This law, if passed,

would effectively shut this area down. Ditto for the nearby Straddle Line

ORV park.

What really strikes me as absurd about this proposal is race tracks like

Evergreen Speedway in Monroe could host auto races of all types, but any off

road events would be illegal.

In addition, this law would only apply to my dirtbike or quad. It would not

apply to other, more common sources of residential noise such as lawnmowers,

chainsaws, cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, stereos, playgrounds, ballfields,

etc. It is just plain discrimination against Off Highway Vehicle use and

has nothing to do

with keeping neighborhoods quiet.

Off Highway Vehicle recreation is a fun and growing family sport, it would

be nice to see sports that support families embraced by Olympia with more

open riding areas, instead of discriminated against.

I would hope that you drop your support of this legislation.

NOTE: We could not determine that this constituent is in your district

IT IS DEAD IN THE SENATE... ? MY REP RESPONDED YESTERDAY SAYING...

Here is a response from representative Tami Green on the anti ORV bills out there. The House bill is dead the Senate Bill however is NOT dead yet! This was recieved yesterday.

"Thanks for writing. It sounds like you and your family have a great time

with this family activity. I know that there are lots of different uses

of public lands because so many people like to do different things.

I think the bill that you are referring to is HB 1434 and SB SB 5544.

You will be happy to know that the House Bill has died. . .it is no

longer able to be voted on the floor. However the Senate Version has

moved forward and may be voted on in the Senate. I will watch for this

bill and take your thoughts into serious consideration.

Tami"

I TOOK THIS AS YES DEAD IN THE HOUSE... BUT ITS NOT OVER YET..

iS THAT CORRECT? IF THAT IS THE CASE.. I SEE NO REASON FOR CELEBRATION BUT CONTINUED VIGILENCE. I JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS BILL ON TUESDAY AND HAVE BEEN CONTACTING EVERYONE I KNOW ALONG WITH NOTIFYING EVERYONE IN MY RIDING GROUP.

SOMEONE PLEASE SPELL IT OUT FOR ME... CAN I BREATHE NOW... OR CONTINUE MY FIGHT...?

SIGNED..

It was killed today and yes you are correct that thier is still a need for constant vigilance. They may try to sneak something else in at any time. Also this is an ongoing fight. I remember when the Sierra club first started giving a hard time back in the early 70s in Southern California. They haven't given up yet and niether should we.

According to DirtCheapJohn's source, it died on the Senate floor this morning.

It sounds to me that it died because of a combination of three main things.

1. The letter writing campaign that helped to educate the other senators of the outlandishness of this bill over the last week or so.

2. The great turnout by all of you that made the rally. (Thanks from those of us that couldn't make it by the way)

And, 3. Maybe most of all, Mr. Kline said some really stupid things. Read his email above. This email was widely circulated, the media and other senators got to read it. Then, he said more dumb stuff on TV and radio. He was a big help to those of us opposing this bill, because by his outlandish actions, he discredited the bill in it's entirety.

So, let me be the first to say...

THANK YOU SENATOR KLINE! I'LL THINK OF YOU FONDLY THE NEXT TIME I GO FOR A RIDE ON MY DIRTBIKE! (That doesn't mean I like you, or that would ever vote for you...)

Apparently the Lt Gov is trying to make 5544 "go away" as quietly as possible.

I believe 5544 is dead, not merely to pacify the masses, but to hide the no longer hidden "movers."

The remote possibility remains that 5544 in it's entirety could be tacked onto another bill that is moving as an amendment. I suspect the result of doing so at this time would result in a loss of office of the moving party at the next election.

 THIS IS HOW WE TAKE OUR STATE BACK, PEOPLE.:applause:

As a nation, the people retain ONLY the rights they fight for.:lol::naughty:

Thank you ALL for fighting for what you believe in:thumbsup:

Just recieved this e-mail. Did everyone eles get something similar?

" received a phone call from Senator Sheldon directly from

the floor of the Senate today. The President of the Senate made

mention of Senator Kline's letter in his statement today that SB 5544

is DEAD.

We are having an informal Victory Celebration at 8 P.M. tonight at;

(PLEASE INVITE THOSE WHO ACTIVELY HELPED US WIN! I don't have a

complete list)

Tugboat Annie's Restaurant - Olympia, Washington 2100 Westbay Dr. NW

Olympia Washington 98502 (360)943-1850.

tugboatannies. com

We hope to see you there!

"

Victory is ours, one voice can turn into many, and many can make a difference. We should all keep eachother informed on ORV issues if we want to keep this great sport alive. Thanks to all, I feel this fight will never go away though.

That already happened dirtbeater...

So it still could get passed into law. Bummer.

The remote possibility exists...

I'd say with 95 percent certainty NO, 5544 will NOT become law, and YOU the public made it happen.:applause:

 MANY strange things have happened with 5544, many the general public will never be aware of, and 5544 will slip into obscurity to be brought back when you are asleep.

I wish the Honeyford amendment had passed and that we had the strength to prevent any further changes along the way to the Honeyford amendment becoming law. But it appears that is not to be. Without a 96dBA law on the books in the State of Washington, this issue will continue to reappear.

Again Thank you ALL:applause:

Exactly what I was thinking. We need to go on the offensive now. Propose our own 96dB law.

That's what I'm worried about...only next time the bill sponsors will keep Kline's name off of it and instruct him to keep his mouth shut so they can fly under the radar with it.
