Seal savers....are they effective?

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd start a debate here on seal savers.

I've heard pros and cons about them.

Pros being that they keep the dust, dirt, mud, etc. from the fork seals more effectively than just the dust seals.

Cons being that they can actually trap the debris in there and hold it (and moisture). Also my suspension guy doesn't like them because of the stiction.

What do you all think?

I can see using them for woods work but not track stuff. I know they work well for my son's CRF450 out in desert in Twenty Nine Palms, CA. I don't use them myself but that's because no one seems to carry them locally and I'm not a huge mail order person.

seal savers are all dependant on riding conditions. some people hate them, some love them. i didnt have them and my seals got real dirty and started leaking bad, so i had the seals changed, didnt re use the seal savers, and they leaked again in about 8 months. sometimes you can get lucky and not need to change your seals for years and years, and other times they can go within two rides. i would say screw them
