76 Yz 125 !!!!

well I picked up this beauty of a bike a few days ago and am told it is a 76 yz 125. No motor...bike was free!!! But i would like to know if there are several years of motors I could look for on ebay or just look for the 76? This baby has that original in the frame monoshock and looks absolutely sick...pictures are in my GARAGE!!! brb

I'm pretty sure there are about 3 years worth of engines that will interchange with the 76. I had a 76 frame with a 77 engine.

That's not a 1976, it's either a 1977 or 78, I can't remember if the 78 had an alloy swingarm or not. Here's some numbers to check out

1977 YZ D

I believe that 77 was the first year for the aluminum rear swingarm....So, I think that's a 76

Definitly not a 1976. The 1976 YZ125 had a metal tank, non-leading forks with large tops, and steel flat swingarm.

The 1977 had plastic tank, leading axle forks and a round swingarm.

The 1978 had a plastic tank, leading axle forks and an alloy swingarm.?

It is definitly a 1977. You should be able to bolt in any YZ125 or IT175 motor through 1979. YZ/IT motors after 79 were a lot different. DT or MX 125/175 should fit too, not sure about the years though, but probably most. If you are not planning to race it then you will be better off with a 175 motor.

Yea I had the 78 YZ100 when I was 12 so I just remembered what mine looked like ... Also my neighbor just picked up a clean 78 YZ100 about 3 months ago
