Q's on jetting and mixture on 400SM

Recommended Posts

Hi all DoZeRs

I'm getting a new (2006 model) 400 SM next week.

I am an ex pat in Riyadh. We are about 700m ASL here (2000' above sea level)

I understand the bike runs lean from stock. My questions are:

Can I open up the airbox on its own or does it need to be done with the re-jet?

Will the 2000' altitude mean that the bike runs even leaner? Is there any adjustment required to the mixture if I leave everything else as stock for a while because of the altitude?

I will do the full 3x3 and re-jet mod but only in 6 months time (after my next trip back to UK)

Regards

Richard

If you open up the air box, you must rejet. Everyone here sweasrs by the James Dean kit. Buy it, you'll have the right jets. If you do not open up the airbox, you will probably at least want to swap out the stock 22.5 pilot jet for a 25 and re-adjust the Fuel screw (good idea to get an extended one, also the float bowel allen bolts). Do some searches of the forum, you'll find many people have asked the same question.
