1985 Cr 250

Recommended Posts

My dad found a 250 that needs restoration and was wondering if any one knew how to get the yellowish dirt stain off the forks and swing arm?:censored: We have washed them a few times with simple green, car wash soap, and S100. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

On some of the older bikes i've cleaned up, there is sort of a coating on the aluminum. Don't know if it's a clear coat or what, but it tuff stuff, and it yellows. I've taken it off with a wire wheel, careful not to brush up the aluminum, then used a polishing compound and buffing wheel to shine up the aluminum. Glass bead might be another option if you have a blast cabinet. There might be some chemical solution I haven't seen or tired, platers use an acid bath to clean up parts before plating. Might cost something, but would be a lot less labor.
