what coolant to use?

Recommended Posts

I searched on this put couldn't get a clear answer. is it worth spending the money on something like engine ice or will regular anitfreeze from walmart. does the engine really lower temps. if antifreeze from walmart is good enough what kind and brand should i get? 50/50 or run straight antifreeze? also how much do you need if the whole motor is dry theres no coolant in it at all, will a gallon be good? its for a 1999 yz125. thanks in advance!

I run the premix 50/50 and have had no problems with over heating and from what I can see inside the rad there is no corrosion taking place.I have used engine ice before and cant tell the difference in the 2 .The only thing with the engine ice it freezes so dont leave it in the winter it looks like a slurpe.

You need to run at least a 50/50 mix with a ethelene glycol based antifreeze/coolant. A 2 stroke usually won't get hot enough to warrant using engine ice. The glycol helps lubricate the seals.
