Shortening my silencer.

Recommended Posts

I've got a Pro Circuit Factory Sound 304 silencer on my KX250 right now. But, the word is, a shorter silencer will get you more low end grunt, which is what I'm all about. I've still got my stock silencer, and instead of cutting up this hot PC unit, and instead of spending the $$ for a shorty, I figure why not just cut my stock one? I figure I could start by taking out about 30mm and see where that gets me. I've got a horizontal bandsaw so I know the cut will be a nice 90 degrees, and I've got the TIG welding skills to weld it back together. Does this sound like it would actually work, or would I just be wasting time?

I hacked the stock silencer on my 250SX in half. It gained a lot of bottom end, but was a lot louder too.

Noise isn't an issue as I'm mostly looking to gain the lower end for the track.

I ended up taking 3-4 inches off mine. Its been so long ago, I forgot how much I cut off.

I've heard of a lot of people cutting their silencers down. 125s, 250s, 250fs, 450s, I've seen people stock silencers cut so I say go for it! It'll sound awesome too.
