What engine and trans oil to use

I wanted to know what oil to use in the 250R. Some people say use the factory oil and some say use Rotella. The people who race Honda's say just use amsoil 10w-40 snythetic in both. What do you guys think and what are you using?

I use Honda HP 10-40 oil.

I use the Honda 10-40 oil atm but I'm at the tail end of my motor break in. I plan to use Amsoil 10-40 in both sides though once break in process is done.

Stick with HP4

It works wonders on high-revving engines it also keeps the valves looking and working good for long time periods.

If you have the money I would use the 10w40 synthetic motorcycle amsoil, but what I do is use Pennzoil outdoor motorcycle 10w40 in the motor and then am going to switch over to the amsoil in the trans for better shifting. Just make sure you don't use the synthetic if your motor is not broken in yet, I wouldn't use it until atleast 10 hours of running time.

I change my oil every 3-4 hours with the pennzoil and with the amsoil it should protect your motor for around 6-8 hours, this is where I like the pennzoil b/c I can dump it out sooner b/c it is cheaper, and I think clean oil is better than older (dirtier) synthetic oil.

i just bought a good used bike the other day and the guy who had it before me uses motor oil for both sides.

I been using Amsoil 10w40 for about 2-3 years and all bikes I have had but this is my frist honda and thats what I put in it. Both sides.

HP4m in the engine side and hp tranny oil 85w... I like the honda stuff.. I used the hp4m on the engine side of my 450 and after 200 hours there was almost no sign of wear!

Good to hear that someone else uses the HP4m. I just started using on my new bike (after break in) and wasn't sure if that was okay.

We use Hinson Racing 10W40 in the engine side & Hinson Racing 80W in the transmisiion side on our CRF250R, CRF450R & TRX450R quad. All are built for MX racing.

i use the honda stuff have ever sense i have been riding, my bikes have never had valve problems and the valves look new every time we check them
