Looking for a Helmet Cam

Recommended Posts

What is the best quality helmet cam? If you use a recorder how do you manage the battery life? We are looking for a HC for desert racing which is 4-6 hours long.

Thanks

fifty fifty makes a sweet one, my buddies got a couple. Expensive though because you need a small camcorder to go with it in a pack.

you won't find anything that will last that long. 80 minutes tapes = 120 minutes long play.

Unless someone has a source for higher minute miniDV tapes

Go to ebay and you'll find a bunch there. I got mine from there and love it - the guy that I worked with is awesome and is always there to answer questions and help you out.

This is the guy - I think he's out of Texas - Derek is his name. If you want his email PM me and I'll send it to you.

I also got a Sony Digital Cam and camel back to store it all in. I would suggest getting a hard case (pelican) case and drill a hole in it for the wires. You will also need a LANC which I think Derek can help you with as well. Easy set-up and great to watch afterwards.

I'm looking for some video editing software now - any suggestions?

ACT 2K action cam

no need for a seperate recorder as it records striaght to SD card at highest setting with a 2gb card i think there is close to 2 hours, as the cards are so small you can get a couple of those and job done :applause:

Downside is even at the highest setting the quality is no where near DVD quality so it depends what you want to do with it, but for web hosting it is more than adequete and the cam is waterproof to 10 feet. I have one and i reccomend

My helmet cam setup can last up to 5 hours, do some research son :applause:

Im currently using the 480 line kit seen here. http://www.helmetcamera.com/acart/agora.cgi?product=HelmetCamera_Kits

Bundled with this camcorder. (I have a larger capacity battery for the camcorder that allows me to have 5+ hours of recording time plus its a harddrive cam that can store up to 8 hours of continuous video.)

I have the 580 line of resolution camera from http://www.extremehelmetcams.com/index.html They make a very high end camera and put it together in a nice package. Its video quality, in IMO is professional. They have a store on Ebay, and I bought mine there through the "submit best offer" for $200 and saved myself $90.. Now All I need to find is a better camcorder. I have one that records to a sd card and I have had problems such as the file size it records in is much too large, and the connection to the avi cords is not great.
