Removing a link

Recommended Posts

Anyone taken a link out of their chain after installing a 38-39 rear spocket on their SM ?

Installed a 39 tooth today, and I am just about on the last adjustment mark.

Chain has less then 100 miles it.

Not too surprising you need to remove a link. Easy to do. If you THINK you might need to remove two, just remove one at a time. Test fit, then remove another if you have to. Then you can either re-rivet it r use a clip type master. Either is fine when done right.

Keep in mind, links are 2 pins. You can't just remove 1 pin. If you are at 110 pins, next shorter is 108. You can do all the fitting without doing anything to the chain. When you determine what you want, then cut the chain. I very much doubt you will need to take out more than 2 pins.
