Easiest way to get a few cc's of oil out of forks?

Recommended Posts

OK, the title says it all-- short of removing the front forks and dumping oil out the top, is there any quick way to lower the oil height a bit, say 5 cc at a time? Bike is a 2005 WR250F with stock 48mm Kayabas. The shop manual doesn't give any clues. What happens if you loosen the compression damping valve on the bottom of the forks without holding the damper rod? Thanks...

Cheapest!

Get a clear tube (you should all have some tube in your house...) and just measre from one end and put a mark. Set the hose down, hold it at this mark and start sucking oil.

Don't let the oil get too close to your mouth, but then when you are ready to dump it, take your mouth off, cap the end with your thumb, take it out and release your thumb to dump the oil. Repeat till it doesn't suck anymore oil...

A think diameter hose works great.

Simply put: A syringe

It measurse precisely and it works to put CCs in or out. You can usually buy syringes its the needles that are are more regulated. Also, you can get syringes that are made for oil actually, they don't fit needles. They have curved tips. Look at AutoZone or whatever.
