Exhaust Valve Maintenance

Recommended Posts

Just replaced the piston on my 99' YZ 250. While taking of the cylinder I inspected the exhaust valve system. It looked like it never had been cleaned or anything. So my question is - how do I carry out a basic maintenance on the valve system? Also - in what position should the exhaust valve ports be when engine is running on low rpm? Open or closed? Low rpm position should be the same as when cylinder is taken off the engine right?

Thanks a million

Magnus

Closed when the engine is not running, open at somewhere around 6000 rpm's.

Maintenance? This system is so bulletproof that little is needed. I dont bust them apart unless they are binding.

You HAVE to have a manual for it. It can get complicated in a big jurry without one.

You can download one here if needed. http://www.yamahaownershandbook.com.au/?r=0
