New basket with old hub, cures what % of shifting/clutch issues?

Recommended Posts

I have narrowed basket's down to a Wiseco (since it is forged and around 160US) and a Barnett (steel inserts that should last longer than the bike but near $210US) I will be leaving in the original hub. The hub has some markings but not anything serious. Adding a new hub is too much money right now.

I am wondering do the plates that run on the hub stay relatively stationary compared the the movement of the fibers on the basket?

Will just a basket cure most of the grabby/neutral/shifting symptoms?

It looks like after doing searches that most people just get an aftermarket basket, I wanted to hear if that was all you really needed to get it back to stock like action?

If the hub is pretty clean and the basket that came off was all notched out, then yes changing the just basket should help quite a bit. I'm assuming the hub just has nornal wear and tear on it. But if you don't have the money to get a new one, you may as well just replace the basket now and see how it works. You might not even need one.
