To Whoever Know's About ATK 406's

Recommended Posts

I have a 92 ATK 406 Cross Country and it is in need of a engine rebuild. Can anyone tell me where is the best place to go for piston, rings and gaskets. Also is there anything I may need to give special attention to and/or modify why I have it torn down.

The transmission has a small leak coming from the center seal but is very small and therfore I do not think it is bad enough to split cases and go thru that hassle and expense. My plan is just to freshen up the top end since it only shows to have 60 psi of compression. Anyone know what the proper compression is suppose to be? Any help and info to keep me from doing things the hard and costly way is much appreciated.

Don't forget to check your reeds also. Could be the source of your low compression if one is broke. I would guess your compression should be some where between 150 and 180 psi.

Also check your frame,up top by the shock,in the gusset. They tend to crack there on the older frames.
