2007 CRF450R Decompression Valve

While checking the valves on my 07 I noticed that the decompresison set up is different on the 07 than it is on the wife's 05 450.

On the 05, the decomp arm is over with the right side exhaust rocker/valve area.

On the 07, it is set up with a weight and a spring on the cam gear. looking through my manual, there is really nothing to check except pulling down the decomp arm with your finger and making sure it springs back up.

Is this new for 07 or was it new in 06? Also, having that little spring up in the top end scares the crap out of me:eek:

Has this set up been holding up ok? Anyone have any problems?

Yamaha has been using the same decomp set up and it works. I think the crf250 is the same.

Is this new for 07 or was it new for 06

Definetly not the same on my 06. It requires adjustment.

So, on the older models, if the decomp valve becomes out of spec you adjust it..............................what do you do on the newer ones, wait for it to fail?

I was curious to, Small amount of wear on the pin can change decompression timming quite a bit. also surface area reduction on cam lobe contact when decompressing , I guess it's only at startup , low rpm's but the stress riser is still there.
