Front Sprocket removal (socket size?) drz400e

Recommended Posts

whats easiest way to remove the front sproket on a DRZ400E? I was going to go down a lower tooth on front, but realized I didnt have right wrench to get the nut off.. is it 30mm size? what size? and do most people use a socket? I may could have got it off with a big cresent wrench but I would have messed up the nut I'm sure..

Also is the washer they use to flatten out on one side, is that a common size washer? to replace? or would one have to order the suzuki part # (probably cost 10 times as much that way)..

It's either 30 mm or 27 mm. Can't remember which. Definitely don't want to try a crescent wrench.

You'll want a torque wrench to put it back on too.

The OEM washer is inexpensive, but shipping will 5x the price. You can probably re-use the one that's on there now.

I do the CSS nut by putting the bike in gear and standing on the rear brake while wrenching it on and off.

30 mm it is. This thread was a good excuse to go down to the garage and check the tightness of the nut. Torque spec is 79.5 lb-ft.
