removing rtv

knocked my case shield off this last week. Want to clean off the old rtv off the engine before reinstalling. This stuff is stubborn! Anybody have any tips?

You can use a solvent like Acetone, or other powerful solvent, beware if you do, it will dissolve paint, plasitic, fingers. Will not dissolve metal.

You can probably just peel it off, get a six pack, a short stool and while away a few hours.

Acetone or Lacquer thinner and some scrubbing works pertty well.

They may remove the color coating on the part, but won't wear away the part.

thanks all, looks like it is acetone, beer, and a stool. I have a razor blade to use also.

Avoid the razor blade, use a plastic scraper instead...and more beer.

If you don't have a plastic scraper you can use some plastic spoons....

But if you imbibe a 6-pack, you will find that your logic tells you that instead of stitches, Super Glue will do the job.

Actually, I super-glued my palm just yesterday-slit it who knows how, but Super Glue is better than any stitches!
