chain through engine case

Recommended Posts

If your chain breaks, de-rails, etc. your stock 'case saver' isn't going to save your case; not even close.

Granted, that little piece of cast aluminum typically isn't going to withstand much from a steel chain at that velocity. The one time I've had a chain break was on my old RM125, pinned in 3rd, maybe 4th gear...the stocker saved it that time. I realize that's gonna be the exception rather than the norm.

I wonder how the billet pieces hold up...

Doesn't really make sense that the case savers are even installed. Other than for marketing and illusions of false security, I suppose. But having some time to think about it, it probably wouldn't help much, if at all; to even have one made of steel in there. The weak link is still gonna be the bolt threads in the aluminum engine case anyway...

Hmmm....I feel another FrankenFabrication seizure coming on!:applause:

Exactly. I've wondered how the billet pieces hold up as well; I have a Fastway on my 450R, but I don't plan on 'testing' it out either.

sorry guys, ive been away.

yeah the chain went into the saver so hard it ripped a massive

hole in the case where the saver bolts in. the saver is still sweet.

lesson learnt the hard way by my mate! never ride with a damaged

chain gide.:applause:
