Recommended Posts

Going to be in Mi. in June For about a week. I will be in Vassar/Frankenmuth area, between Flint and Saginaw. Looking for a place to ride, maybe a pay and ride ATV Park within a 2 hours ride. Any help would be great.:applause:

Closest thing to there is probably either:

The mounds

http://www.geneseecountyparks.org/mounds.htm

or Gladwin

http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/spatialdatalibrary/pdf_maps/trail_maps/orv/gladwin.pdf

A little further north of Gladwin is St Helens

http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/spatialdatalibrary/pdf_maps/trail_maps/orv/gladwin.pdf

Here is all the trails in michigan if the ones above dont suit you

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/1,1607,7-153-10365_15070_15080-38330--,00.html

To ride any of these trails you will need a ORV sticker for like $16. You can get one here ahead of time

http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/welcome.asp

or just pick one up at Meijers when you get here.

You will also need a spark arested exhaust that will pass a 94db sound test. They rarely sound test though so the spark arrestor is the main thing. But keeping it quiet is always a good thing.

If your into MX there are tons to choose from

Good luck and have fun. Oh and stay on the trail.

Out of all those places which is the most wide open riding? I'm not too much into tight trails in the woods. The more open, the better for me. A guy on TT posted this pic from Leota. This looks like my type of terrain. Anything like this at the links you posted? Thanks :applause:

The Mounds. Its a big scramble area.

Cool thanks. Are there any dry areas there to ride at the Mounds? I've never been there but all the videos I've seen of the mounds make it looks like it's mud everywhere.

If you like fast sandy wide open trails then head for Bull Gap up in Rose City, St. Helens etc... They are an 1 1/2 hours north of Saginaw. If you like single track then go to the Meadows or Luzerne etc... When the time gets closer just post here are we'll get you pointed in the right direction.

This is probobly your best bet. Gladwin would be a little closer. Its fairly wide open. The Mounds ? Well ,that place just "BLOWS ". They will charge you extra for not living in the county. Realy small riding area, overgrown bike paths. Huge mud pits from the big trucks.Thers alot around Leota. I can"t say I have been to where that picture is. I guess I need to go further north on the trail.

If you want to ride a track there is a good one right down the road.

Birtch Rd. exit and about 7 miles east.

Like KZOO says, Give a shout when the time gets closer and you can probobly get a guide if you want.

i have rode that area many times where the picture was taken. its south of houghton lake. most of the trails around there are flat and sandy. go on the other side of m18 which is in seeing distance and ride the power lines. a couple of years ago they had a big fire so it has a wide open view.

I"ll have to hunt that area down. I don"t usually ride Leota unless I catch it on a off day. Its a litte to conjested for me on a weekend. I just checked my map. Is this area actualy NE of the Denton parking lot ? I've never ridden out of that lot before. Is there gas nerby ? Going from the Leota lot to the Denton lot might be a good day of relaxfull riding.

The nearest gas is in Meredith, which is south of the hill. The orv trail does not go to it, i believe. My wr450 is street legal so we just hop on the road. You can get close to the town through the trails.

You will be just a stone's throw from Baja Acres, too.

East of Birch Run. Might have a practice day when you are there...if you like mx tracks.

look closely when riding rose city its mostly wide atv trails but they will split into atv & single track they run next to each other in some sections makes a wide open day a little more challenging.
