msr shift lever issue

I just got a msr shift lever and couldn't put it on... I reversed out the threads until it was barely hanging on to the other side, the bolt keeps hitting the shift rod... did anyone else have this issue? perhaps the hole is off?

You have to remove the bolt from the shifter, then slide the shifter on, reinsert the bolt and tighten

Yup. That bolt has to come all the way off.

I did remove the bolt, put the shifter on, but I couldn't get the bolt to align and bit on the threads...

Yes, that's true. It's like a safty feature so you lever won't fall off on the trail. Your shift gear has a slot in it for this very reason.

You might have the shifter on to far or not on far enough. There is a groove on the shaft that the bolt uses to lock the shifter on so if the bolt loosens the shifter won't slide off. The groove needs to line up with the bolt hole.

I ordered mine and it took three weeks to arrive. When it did after I installed it the toe piece was pointing towards the back of the bike. Had to fold it back and grind off some material. Also had a tough time with the bolt as you discribed. I think there quality control is not up to snuff.

I also waited 3 weeks for this POS.. I'll give it another shot next weekend when I am willing to waste too much time on something that should be trival...
