Calling the Itcas...Engine Building ?'s XR250

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've decided since I'm going to strip my bike down the bits a pieces for the final stages of my black conversion that I might as well build the engine and surrounding areas.

Thus far I've purchased a Jetson Exhaust (I know I know, I'll probably have it on for a week but hay it was $40.00)

Ontario header, anyone ever seen these -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270094212072&rd=1,1,

And I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this today -

My question is a simple one. Aside from what I've listed above what else do I need to build this engine? Treat my like and idiot... Not hard! :applause: The bike has very very low miles a 91 XR250L with less than 4k on the clock. When it I bought it it was bone stock and ridder by a middle age man so I'm sure the engine hasn't been beaten too badly. Things like a head job, porting, valves, clutch, ETC... Help me out here.

As for the work I'm thinking about doing everything myself with the exception of boring the cylinder head. What would be a fair price to pay someone to do that? And on that note if I'm going to port and polish flow the heads or do any more peformance work am I just better off to pay someone to do it all at once? If so, whom? Is there a good book on this aside from the manual

Peace! JM

I beleive there was a thread on the Jetson silencer. If I remember correctly is was a negative post, not many impressed with the quality of it.
