Loose spokes

Recommended Posts

I changed my rear tire this weekend and noticed I had dinged the rim and that I had several (7-8) loose spokes. I tightened them using a slotted screw driver, but I had a nagging feeling that I screwed up the trueing in the process. Coming form a bicycle background, I know how important it is to adjust both the loose spoke and the spokes on the opposite side of the wheel to maintain a true wheel. Is this an issue with a motorcycle rim and has anyone taken their rims to a shop to have them trued?:applause:

Thanks in advance for your input.

If you dented the rim, no amount of tighteniong and loosening is going to fix the dent. Motorcylcle rims are not like bicycle ones. If a motorcycle rim is bent much, it has to eitjher be pressed true or close to it or replaced. A bicycle wheel can be really bad and the spokes can pull it straight.

Tightening your spokes because of the dent is a good thing. All your spokes should 'ping' when tapped by a spoke wrench. Riding in the dirt, you should check them after every days ride.
