Athena 490 Piston Question

Recommended Posts

I just got my Athena kit. The specs say it has a high compression piston but when I ordered it they said "no it uses an 11.6:1 (an Athena, I don't know who makes them) because the hc pistions crack." I really don't believe this - I've ran 12.5:1 in my Ice Cube for 2 years on my R with no problems. Does anyone use an hc piston in there Athena? I think I would prefer a JE and maybe a 12.5:1 unless someone has some good experience or advice otherwise.

thanks

Great question Because I am about ready to pull the trigger on a 15.1:5 hc piston for my lady x ya'all now there is never too much power, will pump gas work for this application?:applause:

15.1:5 shouldn't have any issues on pump gas at all. Hell thats about a 3:1 compression ratio. I guess that's one way to keep them from beating you on the trail...:applause:

Thanks that sounds great:applause:

I have a Vertex 490 kit on my R Mexi and it is the same compression as the stocker.

The Athena kit may be at a slightly lower comp ratio so it revs a bit more up top maybe.
