big bore kit

Recommended Posts

Im not into the big bore kits much but a customer sent me an Athena kit to look @ and i have to say its done right i was suprized to see that Athena uses a iron liner that has been nikasiled i had done the same thing on some custom cylinders for a diferent aplication and had very good results you end up with a very stiff liner and still have all the benifits of the nikasil .heat transfer is not an issue and may even be better for power with more controlled combustion temperatures .

I have a TR 270 kit installed.

I will be replacing my piston relativley soon.

I would like to get my cylinder Nikasil plated when I take it apart for a rebuild.

Is it too late since I've already run a piston in there?

Do I need to go bigger on the bore to make up the difference of plating thickness? Or do I just get it honed out and they plate it?

?

Hey Ron, would a CRF 450 carb be to big to put with the Athena 280? if it was jetted right. Thinking about this for my X for a few extra ponies.

Thanks
