New DR650 - What hoses can I get rid of?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just purchased a new DR650 and get all the stuff from Kientech to do the carb and airbox.

My question is...can I just vent the carb overflow and the crankcase vent to the ground? If so, I would imagine I should run the crankcase hose vertically for a couple of inches before turning it down right?

It's no big deal, but it would be nice to do away with those hosed under the tank and that filter-like, PCV-like thing on the airbox cover.

Thanks,

Russ

It's well advised to leave the crankcase hose in it's standard routing, as it prevents any dirt or oil ever entering.

If you never ride on the dirt, then you could get away with it I suppose.

No problem...I'll just leave it the way it is.

Man, EVERY single screw going into this carb must have been put on by a gorilla!! I'm replacing them all with socket heads.

One more thing on the airbox...any disadvantage to just removing the side cover rather than cutting up the top? I really don't plan on being in any deep water.

Thanks,

Russ

Hi Russ,

Lots of people run with the side cover off; it won't hurt a thing. It would be quite noisey though. Congrats on buying a great bike!
