So Sorry For Your Loss!!!!

Recommended Posts

A five-year-old boy was taken Cleveland Regional Medical Center after falling off a motocross bike in Cleveland County this afternoon.

The accident happened during a practice session at a track in Belwood for an upcoming competition.

Witnesses at Parker Valley Motocross said he flipped off the bike and hit his head.

They also said it was the boy's first time riding a dirt bike. No word yet on his condition, but we're told his injuries were life threatening

WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP THIS FAMILY?

There is an article in this morning's Charlotte Observer about the accident.

It appears the boy had been riding mini's for about a year and a half and that this was his first time out on this particular MX track.

He crashed during practice and as he stood up to clear the track another rider on an 85cc bike came flying off a hill and hit him. The other guy was really moving and the impact broke the little boy's neck. It was a blind hill and the other boy had no way of seeing the downed rider until it was too late.

Some parents are upset that officials allowed the bigger bikes and more experienced kids on the track at the same time as the little mini's with beginner riders.

There is an inherent danger in riding ORV's and in spite of our best efforts, accidents sometimes cannot be avoided and the results can be catastrophic. According to the article the boy's fathers says it was a fluke accident...a one-in-a-million-type accident and he holds no ill will towards the other rider (a 12-year-old boy).

I cannot imagine the horrible loss his parents are feeling. It's tragic...really tragic.
