Problem during fork oil change

Recommended Posts

Was changing the fork oil on my 2004 YZ250F yesterday and ran into a problem on one of the forks. No matter how many times I pump the damper rod the last 2 inches or so at the top of the stroke moves freely, there is no resistance at all. The other fork worked fine.

You got air stuck in the fork. Work it slowly or just leave it for awhile and let the air bleed out. Thats what is wrong with your fork, trust me sometimes you will have to stroke the fork slowly for awhile. It also makes a difference with what wt of oil you are running in your forks.

hey rob163-

yz007f is right, there is air stuck in there. You could try this method, its worked for me-with the forks collapsed and damper rod all the way down, put your hand over the fork tube, then pull up on the outer tube, causing a vacuum to pull oil into the fork. Take your hand off and return to the starting position, then repeat. Do this a couple of times, then see if it helps.

Good luck!

Adam
