I have no experience with the YZ490, but did you remove the screw that is at the very bottom of the forks? It holds the damper rods in and the forks will not come apart unless those screws are removed. They can be hard to get out as the damper rod will just turn. There are special holders, but I just use an air impact wrench and the screw comes right out.

Yes there is a large Allen head at the bottom of the fork tube, That makes sence. I don't have anything that large in allen heads, but will ask around

Thanks

Buy an air impact gun or take it to someone who has one. An auto shop will have what you need. Or this gives you a good excuse to go buy an air compressor and the necessary accessories/tools.

This is about the only easy way to get that allen bolt out of the fork tube.

I used the head of a bolt that will fit in the allen head and double nut it. Then you can use a inpact to take it right off. Works every time on my tt500
