525 exc Oil Leak

Recommended Posts

I had oil leaking from my clutch cover so I replaced the clutch cover gasket. The clutch cover is no longer leaking but now I have a new leak from around the kickstarter shaft.

Is there a seal or something at the kickstarter shaft I should have replaced?

Very interesting. I too replaced the clutch cover gasket on my 520 EXC. The next morning I checked the bike only to find out the seal around the shifter was leaking.

Well that is interesting because the shifter is on the opposite side of the clutch.

This weekend we had 1 525 leaking from the kick started AND the clutch cover. The was actually spraying from the top of the clutch cover over the starter area in a "V" shape and hitting the exhaust and dripping down.

Bike was an '07 with @ 30 hours on it.

You might find this interesting too - After I changed mine my fork seal started leaking.

the 2-strokes definitely have a shifter shaft seal, so i'd guess the 4-strokes do too, and it can leak. if you search, you may find a link to someone that makes a better seal aftermarket. i got one a couple years ago for like $8, and haven't had a problem since.
