Front fork preload

Recommended Posts

Can I use pieces of conduit to preload the springs in the front end to help make them stiffer. Until I feel like dropping the money on my suspension, I am trying to find an alternate route to stiffen them up. Also, what size conduit would I need to use?

Thanks

If you're talking about an XR400, you can use 1" sched.40 PVC, 3/4"-1" long. I wouldn't go any longer than 1".

The 1" sched.40 might also work in a 250, don't know what the 250's fork diameter is.

You can stiffen the spring by cutting an inch off and then installing a 1" piece of 1" schedule 40 PVC in place of the cut off spring piece. Doing it that way, the spring is not preloaded but is stiffer.
