well went to docs today need to go back in 7days and be re xrayed, said everything is way to swelled to take any action yet. Did say that is hasnt broke completly apart or shiffted so he doesnt think I should get a screw in there. Just a short arm cast and hopefully 8 weeks. What do you think about that? should I reconsider?

do you think i should speak up at my next visit and tell them to use a screw? Which way would take less time? Also he said even if he does operate he always uses a cast afterward. He looked at me like an idiot when i said about just using a splint after surgery.

You are messing with a very hard bone to heal. After a missed diagnoses for 6 months it has taken a bone graft, screw and 2 months in a cast to heal. If you have to question your doctor you need to change imo.

well went back to doc's today and saw a different person. Got rexrayed after being in a splint for 2 weeks trying to get the swelling down some. Right away this doc said that he would like to put a screw in and that he feels 4-5 weeks in a removable type cast after surgery should do it. I go in next tuesday to have the screw put in, then start some sort of rehab right after. Much happier with this doctor. Hopefully heals up as quick as he thinks it will.

whiteYZ- im just now ending my first month rehab on my broke scaphoid and may have another mnth.. right now im about 70% with the therapist not wanting me lift anything over a pound..

i broke my scaphiod in oct, had a srcew put in(that will not be removed), put in a splint for a week.. came back after the week had stitches removed long arm cast put on for a mnth then short arm for a mnth then slpint for a mnth and last mnth it showed that it finally 100% complete... now im doing rehab.. also during this whole time i have been wearing a bone stimulator for 10hrs a day... its normally 5-7mnths for everything to heal plus rehab for what i was told.. hate to give you this kind of news but its going to be a long process.. we found a way to break the hardest bone in the body to heal because lack of blood flow.. good luck...

Hey man I'm in the same boat . I just broke my schoid bone about 5.5 weeks ago I've been in cast for all 5.5weeks it sucks I go next tuesday for removal of cast and x-ray. They say surgery is always an option. Your lookin at a long recovery if surgery. I think i dodged the bullet . This bone is one that takes alot of time to heal due to lackof blood flow... Hope it works out for you later!
