2 stroke wrist pin bearing?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know why 2 strokes have wrist pin bearings and 4 strokes don't have them? I have looked on google for an answer but I can't find anything. It was just brought to my attention by my old service manager and made start to wonder. Of course he didnt tell me. :applause:

i'm no engine guru, so take it with a grain of salt, but i believe that since 4-strokes have an engine oil system, the piston can pivot on a plain bearing which gets plenty of oil.

on a 2-stroke, the only oil is what drops out of suspension from the gas, so they use a roller bearing which is more complicated but somewhat more robust in low-oil situations.

am i close? lol.
