new to DRZ/KLX - question

I have a 2003 KLX400SR. From a mechanical standpoint - is this basically the same as the DRZ400S model? The bike "looks" great, but runs like crap. I pulled the carb - clean. I can see evidence that it had been off prior (stripped screws, one missing etc. nice. ) Not sure what to look at next. Won't idle at all, backfires a bit when slowing at lower rpms. Has a 142.5 main jet, 22.5 pilot. Also, what is the other jet a little off the side in there? I think it says 62.5 on it. One more question - there is an air screw on the bottom - what is the typical adj position for this? Plug appears a bit lean to me - light brownish to white (but then, I've been a 2 stroker for a long time.) Must say, in the short time I've had this bike I really like it due mainly to all the information available - great forum!
