250 YZF timing problem

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 Yamaha 250YZF. I started it up a couple of days ago with no problems. I tried to start it yesterday to nothing. It started once ran like crap and died, never to start again. I took the cam shaft cover off and it looks like one of the cams has jumped timing. Is this typical of this bike? The timing chain looks tight, any ideas on how this happens? I am assuming it has jumped timing because I can't get the timing marks to line up

Have this very same problem with our 05.Posted previously but had no response.Am anxious to see if in fact we are out.According to cam timing pictures we are out approx 5 teeth.Yet we have no damage(valves or piston)everything looks good.Would anyone have pictures of balancer timing?

Meaning that you set it to TDC and the dots didn't line up ? Like here ?

While your in there check the valve clearance .

Check your chain tensioner. sounds like it might be acting up. Take it off and use a small flat screwdriver and check the actuation per the manual.
