is your muffler to big?

Recommended Posts

O great lords of thumper town,

Please help me with this semi mechanical question.

It seems like the size of some motorcycle mufflers is big(long) compared to others.

And, as a result, said muffler dictates the size of the deck on your back porch.

Now, if you travel long periods it will probably would be beneficial to have a big deck.

It's a nice place to hang your old bag(s) from

but what if your not planning any long trips (lets say the kidneys are not up to it)

and your sole purpose in motorcycling is daily short bursts of complete insanity to and from work.

(aprox 14 miles with alot of stoplights) Then it appears like that big deck of yours is just wasted.

I would like to change that from a stand point of looks and weight reduction.

The only problem is what to do with that big mufler?

What will it take to do something like the change that suzuki did to the GSX-Rs of 2006

from the 05

Can you put a small mufler like the one on the CR250R (maybe even split it to two?)

And of course what will be the implications (loss of HP/torque,to match smoke/back fire, Harley sound?)

of said change.

Any help will be greatly apreciated

Why not have a custom header muffler built that drops down under the bike like what is on the Newer Buell motorcycles. Bob Murry at Thunder Alley can build just about anything for a four stroke motor and can make more horsepower with better sound. Thunder Alley is in Hanford, California

Cut the muffler can, cut the internal baffle to match, rivet/bolt back together...shorten the mid-pipe and relocate the pipe hanger to match the bracket.

Classic street-fighter look with the bobbed tail. You might even ditch the original tail light set up and go with LED...:bonk:
