Doing top end?

Recommended Posts

Hey all.

I've had my DRZ for 15 months now from brand new and i've put on alot of engine hours, the bike is now consuming oil at 500ml per 1000kms (depending on use)

Im thinking its time to do a top end overhaul preparing for my big trip to Cape york of Australia, a 4 week trip which could come to 6000~kms

of riding.

I want the bike to be reliable for this, so i need to check the top end.

What is suggested for replacement? Valve seals, rings & piston, ect?

Cheers.

Not knowing the total mileage and maint. history, it is a guess. If you want to freshen the top end, then:

Rings with a light ball honing, should not need a piston.

Fresh valves, might as well pop in fresh valve seals

Correct, Eddie.

It's had two inlet valves replaced and thats it.

Im baffled on how it could happen. always cleaned my filter, never ran without one.

Maybe the suzuki airbox is of poor design? My filter is in good condition. I use twin air.

Your problems just don't sound typical of the DRZ. Something is obviously not right. You shouldn't be having any problems like that this soon. Sounds like something is getting in there. That being said, good luck finding out what is happening.

has nothing to do with the air box design.
