Swing arm question

Recommended Posts

First post:

Previous owner installed rear foot pegs on my 98 xr 400 by drilling through the swing arm. Will this adversely affect strength/durability of the swingarm? I am also worried about water/mud getting into the swing arm through these holes. Is any of this an issue? Thanks.

If the previous owner did a good job of drilling really straight and clean thru the walls of the swingarm, I don't think you have anything to worry about, unless he has pinched the bolts so hard as to squish the walls inwards.

You could always take your bike to a weld shop and have them fill in the little holes. Proly cost about $10.

Cheers.

Are you leaving the pegs on it or have you removed them. I definately wouldn't leave the holes open to the elements. Rubber plugs would be another option. If you let anyone touch your swingarm with a welder, make sure they are a pro and know what they're doing when it comes to aluminum alloys, heat ranges, kinds of wire/rod to use.
