NorCal Riders Help Save Georgetown - Your Help Needed

Recommended Posts

Everyone, I know this is very short notice. But, there is going to be a meeting on February the 12th at 11 a.m. to discuss the continued funding by the Red/Green sticker program of the maintenance and expansion of the trail system in Georgetown. The Greenies have packed the board and want it shut down. Last year there was a terrible turn out from the OHV community. From what I have been told only two people! ? The only thing that saved our butts was that there was a respectable turn out from the equestrian community who want the trail system preserved for everyone. However, this year they are not as well organized. Therefore, this places a greater burden on us to do our part to save our riding areas. Folks, we cannot afford to sit idle on this one. If we do not have a good showing at this meeting the Greenies will have won and we may loose Georgetown forever. Tell everyone you know. We need to pack the meeting with bodies to show support. I have already contacted the following Sacramento area dealers:

Capitol Yamaha

Honda of Sacramento

PCP Yamaha

Cycle Gear

Carmichael Honda

Good Times Kawasaki

Honda of Roseville.

I plan on contacting D36 as well. The address for the meeting is as follows:

2200 Harvard St. Sacramento Ca.

Time/Date: 11 a.m. February the 12th.

Is it worth a little time out of your busy life to help save our trails? Don't rely on others to do it for you. Now is the time to act! Please join us and help make a difference. Thanks, Paul

I am going to try to make the meeting also. Paul, didn't 60-70 people show up for a trail maintenance day a year or two ago? That should be some fuel for the cause.

Directions to the meeting would be a great help. I will be coming from Tahoe, on highway 80.

Thanks

Les, I'll be there with bike to ride after too and I believe DougM will be there with bike to ride after too.

Ricky, If you got more time bring the bike and ride with us. I had fun riding Georgetown with you last year, let's do it again if you can.

Paul & Monty, looks like no riding for you guys if your bring wife's. I guess that's better for the meeting but will miss you guys for the ride.

Dear: Dave Widel and OHV Commissioners

Please present these comments to the OHV Commissioners at the OHV Grants

hearings on 2/12 and 2/13.

Our organization , Merced Dirt Riders Inc. ( MDR ) Request that you

consider our comments on OHV Grant requests from the Federal Agencies,

Forest Service ( FS ) and Bureau of Land Management ( BLM ). The MDR

supports all of the Grant Requests at full funding for the FS and BLM

Operation & Maintenance ( O&M ) Grants.

In reviewing several grant applications we see a marked increase in the

amount of money requested for Law Enforcement! This fact is very

disturbing to the MDR as the OHV Fund was to, Develop New Riding Areas

and to maintain existing Riding Areas! The MDR wants OUR money going to

where it will do the most, that is in trail maintenance and trail

construction. Trail maintenance to reduce potential damage to OUR public

lands. Trail Construction to disperse the use where there will be less

potential for any damage to occur from over use.

By the agenda it looks like you are purposing significant cuts to

requested amounts the MDR will not support any cuts to the O&M parts of

the grants, if any cutting needs to be done it needs to taken from the

Law Enforcement sections only!

The MDR specifically supports Stanislaus FS, El Dorado FS and Hollister

BLM ( Clear Creek ) grant requests! Please fund these Agencies as per

comments included in this document.

Sincerely
