TE610 air cleaner

I rode about 60 miles of single track in dust and on my next ride to a higher altitude, it was choaked up. That is not much air cleaner capacity. Any one out there have any experience? It seams to have enough area but there is such a thin gap between cover and foam, I wonder if that contributes to poor breathing?

I never saw it much in the wet northeast, but many people cut out multiple holes and put wire mesh in so they breathe better. A real common mod in Oz and for Super Moto. This style airbox has been on all, at one time, then some Huskys since they went single shock over twenty years ago.
