I found a very nice 2007 that appears to have about 25 hours on it.  Stock tires still have more than 50%.  I brought it home, took it for a ride, and then started my dream bike project.

I changed my 08 for a 12; bolted bar risers and hand guards on it and took it for it's first trail ride at the weekend... What a difference!! A lot easier to ride, less fatiguing to ride and more nimble. Made a good decision ;-)

Looked at a picture of my 09 WR450 I'm out of town. doing a top end head should be done by now new piston rings and pin instaled already can't wait to get home and finish it.

I tried to put the GPR V4 Stabilizer on, but that's not going well.  Took a break from that and did all the suspension bearings.  Dropped all those needles into some parts cleaning fluid, glad I didn't just smear some grease in there.

Feels good knowing everything is clean and greased well.

Installed the GPR V4 Stabilizer.

Put on Devol radiator guards.

Made a block off plate for the AIS.  What people are asking for AIS removal kits is criminal.  20 cents worth of aluminum and 20 cents worth of rubber plugs from AutoZone.

Got my forks back and installed them as well.  She's starting to look like a motorcycle again.

Washed it today after a nice ride last weekend .....

This IMS tank has to go .... it boiled the gas in the tank again on a long ride .

No bueno . Don't wanna catch the forest on fire or my balls .

 

The tank touches the half moons on the valve cover gasket and on a long ride all of a sudden I will nail the throttle and it bogs

and back fires ,  loosen the gas cap and lots of gas fumes rush out and it runs fine but you can still see the gas boiling away  :eek:

 

Very sketchy feeling and with that on your mind while riding ...... not fun .

 

Gonna try to shim the tank AGAIN and if that doesn't work I am ordering the Acerbis tank .

I'm doing the air box mod and just wanted to ask... Do you guys just remove the snorkels (circled in red), or do you remove the whole plate (circled in green)?  Do you leave it open, or cover it with a screen? I found lots of pre-2007 answers, but nothing for 2007 and newer.

Ran it in, fitted SUB mounted Scotts plus low rise bar, FMF Powercore, IMS tank and rode it some more

Definitely the perfect Valentine. Rides sweetly and just wants more with no other issues!!

On my new bike (British spec 2015) that came complete with the GYTR ECU etc already done the plate is still there, just the snorkels out

I see I am late on this but I am curious as to what other mods you have done to your bike. You mentioned 07 or newer. What year is it?

 

My 2011, 2008 & 2006 I left the plate in, snorkel out, no protection other then the air filter. It didnt have a screen in it to start with and it is under the seat.. However I am a believer that more air in requires more air out. Then once you do the exhaust whether it is new or uncorked it will need to be rejetted. If you are going to do all that then you also need to remove the AIS..........change the throttle stop bolt...............replace the fuel mixture screw............

 

 

Blah blah blah. Heck chances are you have already done all of that and I am waisting your time.

My bike is a 2007 WR450F with about 25 hours on it.  I'm doing a bazillion mods, but performance wise:

 

Grey Wire

AIS Removed

Air Box Mod (just snorkels so far)

Throttle Stop Screw replaced

Exhaust mod via GYTR Replacement End Cap

 

I'm still digging through twenty thousands posts to figure out the jetting.  I ride in the Sierras at 5000-8500 feet altitude.  My rough guestimate at this point is:

 

Main jet: 168

Pilot Jet: 45

PAJ: 110

Leak Jet: 50

Starter Jet: 68

Fuel screw (turns out): stock 1.5

Needle Model/Clip position: No F'in clue

 

I'm very open to good advise on jetting from those that ride at the same altitude with the the same mods.

I would tell you that I will look up my jetting I have wrote down when i get home but that might be a lie. Meeting the wife after work for dinner then off to a friends place. Most likely late when I get home and then i get up at 2:45 for work. If no one else gets it figured out for you then I will see if I can remember to look it up on Sunday evening after work.

 

Honestly I prefer to go with the JD Jet kit. I have it in all of my bikes and it has been perfect every time. Yes they are a bit expensive at $90 but you get everyting you need and the instructions on how to place everything for your temp and altitude. The reason I spend the money is I dont like F'N with it more than once.

      I have a 2004 Yamaha WR250F that the previous owner modified and the bike doesn’t run the way it should. It has an FMF muffler with an aftermarket pipe coming from the engine. There’s no other silencers or restrictions in the exhaust.
      When I got the bike, it was backfiring every time I let off the throttle no matter what speed I was doing. When the previous owner first started the bike, part of the exhaust pipe was cherry red while he was warming it up by giving it more throttle.
      I took the carburetor apart and found out that I have a 178 main jet, 40 pilot jet, and 72 leak jet. The needle clip was in the middle in the 4th position. I adjusted the fuel screw back to the 1.5 turns out position from the 3.5 turns out position the previous owner had it set at. I changed out the pilot jet to a 45 and the bike no longer backfires while I ride it but it does die when I leave it to idle. Sometimes it dies immediately after letting off the throttle and other times it will idle for a minute or two before dying.
      Now before this gets too confusing, I ran the bike with the fuel screw at 1.5 turns out and 3.5 turns out after changing the pilot jet. At 1.5 turns out, the bike would only run when choked and would die when idling. At 3.5 turns out, the bike will run with the choke off but will still die when idling.
      If anyone has any suggestions to try, please let me know.

      Background - cool weather has me motivated on doing a ground up restoration on my 97 yz250 , last year I fully restored my first bike that got me into the sport a "1993 yz125 " . Just like my my build last year It seams Im stuck with the bastard children of Yamaha , parts are hard to find and seems to be little or no aftermarket parts.  I have already spent well over $1,000  on this yz250 in plastics , custom graphics , asv levers , custom gas tank ,  exhaust and other crap so the most cost effective way would be best lol.  I'm wanting to change the look of the bike with black wheels , rims are 160-220 each depending on brand . spokes are 60+ each set and labor is about $200 locally to lace and true . I have searched high and low on forums and google haven't found a single aftermarket set that fits a 1997 everything is 99+ 
      Question -  I have found a newer set of wheels  https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1071/42645/Tusk-Impact-Complete-Front-Rear-Wheel-Kit what do I need to make these work on a 1997 ? I know my hubs are 20mm and 99+ have 22mm.  if you could help with part numbers or links on what I need.

      So i just rebuild my top end of my 2005 250F, i had 35 houres on my piston and cylinder so i decided to rebuild it.
      it ran perfectly before the rebuild, my timing is right, i have spark, en my sparkplug is a little wet so i have fuel... If i try to kick it it starts to run but after 2seconds it stops running. does anyone know what i have to do?

      So I am 270# and 6'. I used to ride and want to get back into it. I definitely have a good amount of experience to handle both a 250 and 450 but not sure if a 250 will be able to handle me.
      Right now the bikes I am between are:

My plan is to build a 5 acre track in my backyard and build some sort of track along with mainly using it for trail riding.
      I guess what I am asking is for some suggestions and opinions that could help me decide.
