Picking up an 08 DRZSM this weekend....

Recommended Posts

...here are my planned mods:

1. Powerbomb header. I want to keep the decibels down so I'm keeping the stock pipe.

2. Airbox mod/new filter charger.

3. Jet kit (any recommendations with what I am doing)

4. 16/39 sprockets for better highway riding.

Whacha think?

I'm still undecided on whether to get BLACK or WHITE.

Header will be a good idea

SM? Use a K&N

Jet Kit - James Dean, get Kientech fuel screw and allen bolts for the float bowl (I still like bowel better)

!6/39 is too tall for mostly stock engine. Try just the stock 41 rear and a 16 front first. Get the Driven CS sprocket. Only one that fits nicely.

Black

I agree with William, I run 16/41 and wouldn't want to go taller than that.

Ok,

K&N air filter w/airbox mod.

16/41 gearing.

Keintech fuel screw with Mikuni allen bolts. James Dean jet kit.

I'm feeling the WHITE because I can get the Urban Camo graphics from XGX Xtreme. Then again, it would probably look pimp on Black too.

If your going to run it on the beach, you might want to opt for a twinair over the k&n. Mind you, with 16/41 gearing, I don't think you will be on the beach. :)

My DRZ will NEVER see dirt/sand.

Commuting during the week. Banging turns on the weekend.

You might consider a Leo Vince X3 Exhaust. It looks sick, is affordable ($350), and with the longest insert it is SUPER quiet. (like stock) I would go with the white plastics, because everybody has black. The Leo Vince comes with 4 inserts and a spark arrestor. I noticed with even the longest insert, a noticable gain in bottom end and midrange power and throttle response. Also go get an aluminum throttle tube.

I was out your way last February. (Oahu) Crazy in a car for a tourist! But a DRZ SM would be a blast. I'll be going back.. for sure!

Hey ,

(you have a smiley named after you... :smirk: )

Another nix on the 16/39 gears...:thumbsdn:

I tried a 16/38 with my stock 07 SM engine and an oversized rear tire, and it was just too high. 16/41 or 15/38is really optimal for road riding.

(ooh... you gonna love your new SM... ;) )

Take Care,

Greg

I'm working on budget mods first.

From talking with some owners on Supermoto Junkie, some say just using the Powerbomb header is as good as going with a new exhaust can. :excuseme:

I wouldn't bother with Black or White. They both look horrible...Yellow is the best colour least it stands out. Blue is ok aswell.Who wants a black bike??? its dull and as for white...Dont even go there

Unfortunately, yellow is not an option for 2008 and there aren't many for sale here on the island.

Plus I beg to differ about how good a WHITE DRZ looks.

Black

I wish I had the cash for the SM. Anyway +1 for Black!

Wesley Snipes said it best:

"let me give you a word of advice. Always bet on black!"

Hey WTF, :)

You can get a Sprocket Specialist 38T aluminium alloy rear from Forrest at:

WheelingCycleSupply.com

It's a whole pound and a quarter lighter than the stock steel 41T sprocket... and that's a lot of rotating weight shed!

It's not anodized black... I just sprayed it with some flat black high temp BBQ paint. ;)

Take Care,

Greg
