Any probs running 12T front on XR250?

I've been searching the gearing threads for a while, and have read where several people are running and recommending the 12T for the front. I've also read other threads where people caution against dropping a tooth in the front because of chain life etc. I'd like to hear from folks that have run 12T fronts with or without problems.

thx!

I used a 12T front on my '86 XR250R for 19,000 miles with no ill effects.

I'm using a 12T front on my CRF230F; up to 13,000 miles with no ill effects.

They just wear out a bit sooner than the 13T (about 8% faster, which is about 1/13 ... :prof: )

Seven years now with no problems.

No problems here, too.

I used 12/51 and it was very short ratio.

13/51 works better (for me) on trials.

It will be nice in the flats and downhill but will not pull well when at altitude or uphill

Actually, if I'm not mistaken it's the exact opposite. Lowering one in the front, is like adding 3.5 in the rear, which increases your torque.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
