A few questions regarding a Chinese bike

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about buying a Chinese bike to use for cruising around on the weekends. I was thinking either a 150/200 with a Lifan motor. However, before I buy I have a few questions.

1) I am 17 with a driver's license. Do I need a motorcycle license to ride?

2) Any problems getting these bikes plated in Ohio? How much should I be looking to spend?

3) How much should I expect to pay for insurance?

Thanks for helping me out.

As Frank mentioned yes you will need a motorcycle license.

If you get a dual purpose bike that has all the lights, signals etc. it should

come with a MSO.

I have a Chinese 200cc dual sport that is registered here in Ohio. I had to sign

a paper stating that it had all the required safety equipment and was charged

an additional $7 to have the new title read "motorcycle" rather than "offroad

only". I have it insured through American Family for $75 a year liability only.

I bought the bike off ebay almost two years ago for $1070 shipped to my door.

Check out http://www.chinariders.net more info on china bikes than you will

ever need.

A pic of my bike... good luck to you.

What do I need to do in order to get a motorcycle license? Just take a written test?
Don't know about Ohio, but . . . in VA, one must pass a written test; then, receive a learner's permit; then, wait thirty days before eligibile to take a riding test. Passing the riding test completes qualification for motorcycle endoresement on drivers' licenses.

The applicant may take the riding test, once a day, for up to a year, or until a passing score is recorded.

For Ohio-specific information, a local motorcyclist, motorcycle dealership, or certainly your DMV can clue you in.

(I'd start at the DMV, picking up their manual to study, etc. Ultimately, you'll have to deal with these folks; and . . . the DMV is the final authority.)

Thats one funky seat cover.

Yep, I added an inch of foam to the top of the seat and went with fabric

instead of vinyl. Got tired of having a sweaty a$$. It's like sitting on a

couch literally. My dad is an upholsterer and this was the only color he

had unfortunately. Can't argue for free. ?

Do yourself a favor and look or a used XT225 or DR200..much more performance and quality at a similar price.

As far as licensing goes, you need to take the test at the DMV, or go take an MSF course, then show the completion card to the DMV and viola..you have a MC license.

? just a little more but worth it, quality, looks.
