oil filter spring

do i really need to grease the oil filter spring?

if so, what kind of grease?

the manual for my '07 says to grease it upon replacement of the oil filter...

I think that the grease is only used to help hold it in place.

yep, the grease on the spring is to hold it in place while you put the oilfilter and oil filter cover on... After the cover is in place I like to push it in and see if the spring lets it return, then I know it is in right... Do not over torque these bolts... 60 inch pounds is more than enough...

i torque these bolts along with the drain bolts with my weak hand

Couldn't the oil bring back some of the grease into the engine, or is it just to heavy for that to happen?

not something worth worrying about......that grease will liquify
