What did you do to your DRZ400 today?

Recommended Posts

Sorry I'm late, this was Sunday:

Just went for a quick 5 mile, 4 hour ride on Sunday. Thought you guys might like some of the pictures.

This is Jeff manning up on the DR650.

Then I found some water that might have been a little too deep.

32223344439.jpg

I wasn't going anywhere fast.

32223344553.jpg

Then the water found it's way into the carb (while I was lifting it).

32223344542.jpg

It took a while to get it running again but we carried on. No more pics though

I have a 200 DRZ-E with a Baja kit - one of the very first bikes of this series. I spent $1,200 and 12 hours to do long overdue maintanance. It has always run ok.

I have only changed the oil and added gas for 6 years so to get ready for the dirt bike season (California weather is great!) I did the following:

Greased all fittings and shock linkage

Oil and filter

Airfilter change

New Bridgestone tires and checked the wheels for runout - they were great even though I usually ride very rocky section in the Sierra Mtn's all summer

New chain and sprockets 15/50 (up 2 in the back)

New fork springs with race tech valving, fresh oil and seals (Evolution in SJ)

New spring, oil and seals for the shock ($825 for forks and shock)

Replaced the cam chain adjuster with the one talked about here. Tough to get at the inside allen bolt - had to hacksaw my allen wrench.

Checked the valves for the first time since the 600 mile check and they were fine.

lubed the cables

Replaced the front brake pads and fluid

Replaced the coolent, took off the radiators (they were bent but still hold water) and washed the dirt out. Used a screwdriver to straighten bent cores.

Added a new tall seat. Now I barely touch the ground - we will have to see how that goes. The old one hurt after a long day of riding.

New spark plug - first in six years

It ran fine before and runs great now. The suspension should be as good or better than a new KTM.

Took it around the neighborhood and it feels great. I can't wait until this weekend to dial in the suspension.

Any other suggestions for maintanance?

Spent the morning showing my wife how to ride a motorcycle. She got into 2nd gear... woohoo! At 5'10" at least touching the ground isn't an issue for her.1118071122.jpg?t=1195594582

I'm glad she missed. My first two wrecks were within three blocks of my house.

Garrett Poucher and Skyler Howes of Garrett Offroad Racing are headed to Dakar!  These US privateers are headed there for their first times but Skyler is fresh off a victory at last week's Baja Rally, won the Sonora Rally in March and this team placed third in the Baja 1000.

They have a fundraising link set up and could use your help.
I raced with Garrett at Baja Rally last year and then both of them at Sonora and was honored to pit with them as well.  They're both super guys and work their assess off.  I think they both have good chances of not only finishing the 11 days of Dakar but placing well.
They're doing some rally training events this Sat, Oct 20 in Santa Clarita, CA and then another Oct 28th in St. George Utah so if you've ever considered learning rally raid navigation, this is your chance!  It's a lot of fun too.  More info on that at the link.

Looking to buy a used Beta 2017 500 RRS from outside California.  Can I plate (Register with CA DMV) the bike in CA?  If so what is the best way?  Don't have the money to put down for a new bike from a Dealer in CA.  Any help or sugguestions would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
