What did you do to your DRZ400 today?

Recommended Posts

OK, Had some time today to tinker around on the DRZ.

1) Fitted a GSXR screen to an old headlight shroud that I had lying around.

2) Installed a 5 liter rotopack to the B & B rack. Should get around 300km with this set up.

3) Added some rubber to the B & B bash plate. Yes it does stop the engine vibration noise coming up from the bash plate.

Believe me- if you didn't know about it before you soon will. By adding a fairing/ wind shield you will cut your fatigue level by 50 to 80 %. Ride further, happy trails, have fun. Cheers

Nice! I just put the same fender on my Z. I had to widen the front holes I had drilled free-hand because the front was pointing to the ditch. I've noticed that you have put on some of the other accessories that I like. Such as Lightspeed. I want to get their rear rotor protector and caliper protector, but I've only seen it listed for the SM. Any idea if it will work on my S?

Plugged my DRZ into the battery tender today. Supposed to be down in the teens this weekend. Might take it off the charger and take it for a spin on Saturday though. Should hit about sixty that day.

I don't think I'll every be done tinking? To your point though yes, for the most part. After 13 riding seasons there aren't many aftermarket parts left to buy the old girl. However, I could see adding 1 1/8 bars, a Magura hydraulic clutch and possibly a brembo caliper some day. I'd like to find the side panels and rear fender from the old appearance kit also.

KTM EXC front master cylinder is another great cheapo mod. But don't stop there, figure out the SXV swingarm, a smooth and responsive EFI, plush Ohlins, slipper clutch. There's still more to be done!

Exc front master is something to think about. You're the 2nd to recommend it.

The Aprilia swingarm doesn't do it for me. A black powder coated stocker on the other hand would look decent.

The way the FCR is dialed I have no reason to change it. I didn't care for the on/off feel my YZ had. Can't ever rule it out though.

Do have have a P/N for an Ohlins shock that fits the SM? In reality the stock components are much more capable than the bike as a whole. The next rear shock I buy is going on the Xtrainer, not the SM

Slipper clutch, meh. I like compression braking.

If I found one for the right price I think modding a new RMZ subframe to fit the lastest style panels and fender would be cool.

I have no reason to every sell this bike. We'll see what the next 12 years brings.

Besides the KTM cylinder, they were mainly jokes. Your bike is well done, those were the only things I could really think of, and they're unnecessary.

And the guy who recommended it to you was recommended by me! ;) It's a great part.

Finally got around to doing some video work from my Colorado trip- Here is a quick 4 minute video of the ride up Mt Almagre near Colorado Springs. Crank up the Volume- The music is great. It was a great ride but the weather got real nasty the higher I went.

Changed the oil for the first time after redoing the head and replacing the piston. No signs of any trouble! Huge relief.

Started working on the D Friday night, changed out the tank with Raptor petcock, installed white plastics, and the seat.

Then, I went for a ride with friends!

I have been on road bikes.... This is my first time riding dirt on a trail and I feel like I missed out my entire life!!

Nice bike and nice pics.  What front fender is that?

Polisport SM Line Universal Front Fender

Some mod necessary.  Front reflector bracket needs to be removed and the speedo cable bracket needs to be transferred.  Drilling a hole necessary.
