Haven't even got my 650 dusty yet. But I can tell it's gonna be the best ride *ever* for playing "where does that road go?" then jetting down the freeway when it's time to go home. Previous dual-purpose bikes included an MT-250, DT-250, AT/CT-1 hybrid, XL 500, with the only single shocker being an '84 XL 350. (The Bultaco Lobito 200 doesn't count, since it never actually ran while I owned it.)

And if I ride it to work 723 times, the DR will pay for itself in gas savings.

And yes, with only 61 miles on the clock, I'm already feelin' the zenlike groove from this bike. Just wish it had an 18" rear wheel on it, so I could mount up an old-school trials universal tire on it for the gravel roads....

Wow I never really expected this much input(yes I did) but the truth be told, I fall deeper in love everytime I ride it. It's like some sort of drug that I can't get enuff of(crack?). Will I sell my 'Busa...Hell no that things awesome for all day rides with my group, but it does see less miles being racked up. My next endeavor will be to ride with some ppl that have 4 wheelers out in the swamp to see how she does....more on that later!

You know, I love my DR's to bits and all that good stuff but sometimes I wonder. When people say the DR gets all the miles while the (fill in blank with expensive, powerfull, high end moto porn) sits at home.....is the DR THAT awesome? Or is this just like, you know, pass the koolaid....:banghead:

I have a $13,000 Aprilia parked next to my DR650 and the DR is the one I get on 99% of the time.

More expensive does'nt mean more fun.

It's so very well suited to the real world, and it's cheap to own, operate and modify. It even looks good, especially parked next to a KLR650. Mostly, every ride is a good time...

This post has been great for me to read! I'm selling my 06 Triumph Scrambler to buy a 08 DR. The worst part about it is, I've only owned the Scrambler for 4 months. I made the mistake of going to the Suzuki dealer to buy a pair of gloves and he said (like the drug dealer does)"wanna take the DR650 for a test drive". Of course I said yes, 30 mins. later I'm writting a check for a deposit and posting the Scrambler to sell. I've got all the mods picked out to buy, have talked to Jessie and I'm planing my X-country trip for Sept. 08. Thanks to all the posts that helped make my choice so much easier. You guy's rock:applause:

Wood Man, KrustySS, I read you guys loud and clear, I am also a huge fan of the DR...but I dont have access to the high zoot machinery to compare. Aprillia to DR, 99 to 1 w/o koolaid?....Yo Lefty 52, my multi line dealer has two 06 Scramblers collecting dust since like forever. I fell in love with those when they were first released, especially for the 270 deg. crank. I dont like the high pipes (luggage) or the budget forks/brake and some of the styling foof. The basic arcitecture I like. They are deep discounted and if I didnt already have three bikes....

"When I run into other riders on the trail out in the middle of nowhere,I get some really strange looks. That says it all............"

Yep, a bike that's "different" helps you make new friends. My ATK406 started many a conversation out on the trail...and was even a conversation-starter with a gal I met on the dance floor at a cowboy bar. How many guys can say their Honda ever hooked 'em up?

But the DR is cranking out solid numbers on a giggle-meter...

How is the stock seat on long rides ( 3 to 4 hours ) ?

Is the Corbin a big improvement over the stock?

Thanks

AWFUL. For anything more than an hour or so, the stock seat is harsh. I was able to help remedy that with an Alaska Sheepskin cover, but that only bought me another hour at best. The Corbin I have on my bike now is fantastic. 3-4 hours is no problem on it.

For me ,1 hour rides used to kill me. I ordered a corbin, tried it out. All I did was slide towards the front of the seat . I called them(great people)sent it back,I asked them to add 1 inch all around and 2 inches in the middle.I can say that this is the most comfortable seat I ever had.
